“We’re a part of one unit, and there are significant opportunities among all of our disciplines.” “One of our biggest strengths is the synergy of our scientists and engineers,” Sorem said. Sorem Jr., dean of TU’s College of Engineering and Natural Sciences has collaborated with TUDRP in the past. “We’re not just by ourselves, and we have full support around the campus.” “We can call on mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or other departments from TU’s College of Engineering when we need help,” Miska said. To date, 170 projects have been completed, and 14 are in progress. The consortium team includes eight TU faculty members as well as research technicians, several consultants and research assistants. Current TUDRP resources includes a Low Pressure Flow Loop, Advanced Cuttings Transport Facility, Drill Pipe/Coiled Tubing Buckling Facility, Full Scale Testing Rig, Drill Pipe Fatigue Testing Facility, Fluids Characterization Lab, Small and Large Indoor Flow Loops, Shale-Fluid Interaction Test Cell, Tri-axial Rock Mechanics Testing Facility and others. TUDRP began looking at all aspects of drilling mechanics and introduced new tools such as the Rock Mechanics Facility to better understand factors affecting the drilling rate and ultimately drilling costs. “I wanted to develop something that would be unique and useful.” “I wanted to do more for the drilling industry,” he said. The development of a flow loop system by Azar provided a location for new experiments, and Miska was eager to implement additional applications. Miska continued to focus on Azar’s priorities while also expanding the research. Professor Stefan Miska, who initially taught at New Mexico Tech, joined TU in 1992 and succeeded Azar as TUDRP director in 1996. TUDRP grew to more than a dozen members with worldwide recognition, and by the late 1980s, more than 25 companies were involved.Īzar led TUDRP for 22 years while teaching drilling courses to hundreds of students and helping them publish technical papers as a direct result of the research at TUDRP. “We were the only existing cooperative research program in petroleum engineering that specialized in drilling while also promoting academics,” Azar said. As director, he reached out to major oil corporations, independents, contractors and suppliers. Azar arrived at TU in 1965 as an assistant professor in aerospace engineering. Livesay left the program in 1972, and John Day served as interim director until J.J. Livesay was the group’s first director and welcomed a small group of industry partners. Students gain experience in the industry while partners benefit from the research developed. A nonprofit cooperative between industry partners and university associates, TUDRP conducts basic and applied research to advance drilling technology. TUDRP is the concept of legendary TU professor Kermit Brown who initially established the consortium. Detwiler Professor Stephen Miska passed the directorship to Wellspring Associate Professor Evren Ozbayoglu in the summer of 2017. One of the oldest drilling consortia in the world, The University of Tulsa Drilling Research Project, TUDRP, is celebrating 50 years and is poised to continue its tradition for another five decades. Many professionals in today’s drilling engineering industry can trace their careers back to a historic research facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

They have an easy to use order tracking system, have been voted best photo lab, their website is very easy to use, and they offer free shipping to their facility. They use the dip and dunk method of film development and have won many awards for customer service and quality over the years. Now located almost exclusively online, The Darkroom has been in business for more than 40 years. P lease be aware the prices were current at the time of writing. Most of the film labs listed below are not much more expensive than places like Walmart, Walgreens, and CVS but with much better customer service, better selection of film to purchase, much faster turnaround times, and provide more options for developing and scanning (for example, most of the places listed below can process black and white film, medium format film (color & b&w) while others can process 8mmm and 16mm movie film, half-frame film scans, Minox, Disc film, vintage film, large format film, slide film, optical darkroom prints, ECN-2 development, etc).īelow we have provided online labs with overall cost for both color and black & white film development with scans, cost for development without scans, price for return shipping, if they supply a free shipping label, and if they can develop disposable / single-use camera. Instead, consider one of the following professional mail-in processing labs we have reviewed for you below. Also, most retail stores like Walgreens, CVS, and Walmart only sell color film in limited options in the store (usually only in 400 or 800 ISO) and they don’t sell popular films like Kodak Portra in the store). However, I recommend avoiding these stores for film development since they generally won’t return your negatives, have an extremely long turnaround time (up to 6 month in 2022), the scans you get back are low resolution or are mediocre at best, and are limited to what type of film they can develop. There are most likely retail stores like CVS, Walmart, or Walgreens located near you that can develop film. Why I Don’t Recommend CVS, Walmart, or Walgreens For Developing Film Keep reading to find all of this information for and more for each of the following recommended 14 film development labs. Some of the most recommend labs include:Įven though there are still many labs that will develop your film it can be hard to find information about how much it costs, what kind of film they can develop, how long it takes to get your film processed, if they offer free shipping to and/or from the facility, if they offer discounts, and what other services they offer. Luckily, there are still many places in the United States in 2023 that will develop film in the store or online and through the mail.įilm developing labs charge anywhere between $5 – $22 for 35mm film or $6 – $25 for medium format (120) film depending on the type of film. Finding a place to get film developed for the first time and how much it costs may seem daunting. You can get the JPEGmini extension for Photoshop as a package (with plug-in for Lightroom) and they have a special offer now with a discount from $149 down to $99. This has a great potential advantage, smaller file size (with the same great quality) means more files can be saved on the hard drive or memory card, and it would be easier to be emailed due to smaller file size. JPEGmini Pro promises that their proprietary algorithm can dramatically reduce the size of JPGs with no discernible loss in quality. In fact, the JPEGmini Lightroom Plug-in made the whole process seamless. At the same time, the compression software will keep the quality and resolution of the image. To help improve my workflow efficiency, I chanced upon JPEGmini one day and realised that it could potentially reduce the file size of my images by up to 80 (without any reduction in perceptual quality). The creators of the image compression claim that they can create image compressions that will no affect any visual look of the image, meaning there will be no visible degradation of the quality, and at the same time the extension can reduce the file size by up to 80%. JPEGmini is an image compression package, which works in a way that it analyses parts of the image, sectors, and applies different amounts of compression to different sections of the image, accordingly to the content of the image. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC, Lightroom 6 Classroom in a Book by John Evans. 2112018 First of all in order to integrate JPEGmini into your Lightroom workflow you will need the Pro version of the software the regular version does not come with a Lightroom plugin. Compared to the regular JPEGMini, which is aold for 20, the pro version includes a Photoshop and Lightroom plugin. To install the JPEGmini plug-in into Lightroom perform the following steps. The software company behind JPEG mini, Beamr, has made avilable an extension to Adobe Photoshop. Meanwhile JPEGMini offers a pro version both for Windows and Mac OS at a reduced price of 99. In your Dorico Expression map, you could use two key-switches in different ranges of the keyboard. I might have misread, but if you’re getting conflicts between native EW Keyswitches and doing Bidule Key_Switching channel bounces… What it seems could be happening, is that you might be mixing an EW instrument that has built in key switching, with a channel hop to a non KS instrument in the same plugin? Just thought I’d plug Bidule here! Brian is the real expert, he’s been using it for a long time (apparently), I would bug him if you’ve got questions. I’ve just begun playing around with Bidule, but I can definitely see this opening up a world of playback possibilities, and taking away a lot of the typical hurt involved in getting notation software to sound off the way I really like. So, I’m telling the information coming from Dorico, “if there’s a G7 (note 91) keyswitch, then change the MIDI to channel 4.” Naturally, channel 4 happens to be the channel to which I’ve assigned the col legno battuto sample in EastWest Play. If I double-click it, I see these controls: The Key Switch node is where the magic happens. That’s the simplest set-up that I could devise I could do a whole hell of a lot more with that, if I liked. So, the audio information moves from Dorico, to a Key Switch node, to the EastWest Play plug-in, and finally back to Dorico. With Bidule, I simply set up a DAG that looks like this: Since I wouldn’t want to make a mess of the score in doing so, this would be no minor feat. Normally, I would proceed to implement playback hackery:smiling_imp: to get the audio right whenever the score called for col legno battuto on the staff. This set doesn’t include a col legno battuto sample, so I’m forced to dedicate a channel to that sample (which is, of course, available as its own instrument, rather than part of a keyswitch-able set). Just as an example of what it does, I have a keyswitch-able sample set loaded into one of my MIDI channels in EastWest Play. I figure many professional users are well familiar with this tool, but I don’t see a thread in this forum that’s dedicated to it, and I think it’s worth it to bring it to the attention of playback junkies like myself who might not have heard of it.īasically, it’s a way to take the information coming out of Dorico (or any other notation application that supports VST/VSTi plug-ins), pipe it through a network of specialized nodes, and then send the end result back to Dorico (or straight to your audio-out device) for playback. User Brian Roland has turned me onto Bidule, which is basically an application that allows a user to set up a directed acyclic graph of processors (mostly, but not limited to, digital audio). The current gain of the Sziklai pair is similar to that of a Darlington pair and is the product of the current gains of the two transistors. In contrast to the Darlington arrangement, the Sziklai pair has one NPN and one PNP transistor, and so it is sometimes also called the "complementary Darlington". In electronics, the Sziklai pair, also known as a complementary feedback pair, is a configuration of two bipolar transistors, similar to a Darlington pair. Sziklai pair that acts like a single NPN transistor with collector C, emitter E, and base B. This is shown in the example circuit in Figure 3.Figure 1. Where they are found Many common appliances use Darlington transistors to drive high current loads including solenoids, electromagnets, motors, and lamps. The maximum theoretic operation frequency is given by the transition frequency of fT (the gain falls to 1) and is typically near 100 kHz for most common types. Transition Frequency (fT)-Darlington transistors are slow devices and can’t operate in frequencies above some hundred kilohertz. Small-signal transistors can have dissipation in the range of milliwatts, but high-power types can dissipate powers up to 250 watts and more.Į. The Dissipation Power in watts gives the maximum amount of heat that can transfer to the surrounding area. Dissipation Power (Pd)-The transistor generates heat when it conducts a current, which is transferred to the area surrounding the transistor. For what the gain means, refer to specifications in for bipolar transistors.ĭ. Gain (hFE)-Gain for common Darlington transistors can vary from 1000 to more than 10,000. The additional indication of (max) can also be found with the values.Ĭ. This current flows between collector and emitter when the transistor is in the conducting state and varies from some milliamperes to more than 20 amperes to even more heavy-duty types. Collector Current (lc)-the maximum current that can be controlled by the device. We can find a (max) indicating that it is the maximum value or a (typ) indicating that it is a typical value.ī. In some data books a third letter or group of letters is found after the “ce” indicating special conditions for the value. Typical values range from some volts to more than 400 volts. Collector-Emitter Voltage (Vce)-the maximum voltage that can be applied between collector and emitter of a transistor. The data sheets or data books normally have a lot of information about transistors including many curves and numerical information about performance.įor electricians or even electronic technicians who only want to know enough to use or replace a Darlington transistor the following specifications are the most important.Ī. Important: Not all transistors beginning with TIP are Darlington transistors! The complementary PNP types are the TIP 115, TIP 116, and TIP 117. Some Darlington power NPN transistors in this series are TIP 110, TIP 111, and TIP 112 for 2 A of collector currents. This series is formed by a number of Darlington NPN and PNP transistors designed to control currents from 1 A to more than 10 A and voltages up to 100 V and possibly even higher. If you have a handbook of transistors or the specific data sheet (or diagram) for the equipment, it is possible to know if the component is a Darlington transistor.Ī common series of Darlington transistors found in many electronic appliances and even in electric applications is the TIP series of Darlington transistors first manufactured by Texas Instruments and now by many other manufacturers. The identification is made by the type or part number that is normally a figure on the component’s body. High-power Darlington transistor must be mounted on heat-sinks.īy the simple look of the component it isn’t possible to know if it is a common transistor or a Darlington transistor, or any other semiconductor because they all use the same bodies. Figure 2 – Symbols for Darlington transistorsĪs a common bipolar transistor, they are found in the NPN and PNP versions. Is There a Maximum Amount of Time You Should Soak Contacts in Hydrogen Peroxide? It is also important to note that hydrogen peroxide can corrode certain types of contact lenses, so it is important to check with your eye care professional before using this type of solution. Additionally, hydrogen peroxide can damage the contacts if it is not used correctly or left in for too long. For example, hydrogen peroxide can cause stinging or burning if it gets into the eyes. While hydrogen peroxide is generally safe to use in contact lenses, there are some risks associated with its use. Risks of Soaking Contacts in Hydrogen Peroxide Additionally, hydrogen peroxide is generally less irritating than other types of contact lens solutions, making it a good choice for people with sensitive eyes. This helps prevent eye infections, which can cause serious health problems. One of the main benefits of using hydrogen peroxide to clean contacts is that it is very effective at killing bacteria and other microorganisms. Benefits of Soaking Contacts in Hydrogen Peroxide It is important to understand both before deciding if this is the right cleaning method for you. Soaking contacts in hydrogen peroxide has both benefits and risks. What Are the Pros and Cons of Soaking Contacts in Hydrogen Peroxide? For these reasons, it is important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and only soak your contacts in hydrogen peroxide for the recommended amount of time. Additionally, hydrogen peroxide can cause the contacts to become brittle over time, which can make them more difficult to handle. However, some people may experience irritation or discomfort if they leave their lenses in the solution for too long. It is generally considered safe to soak contact lenses in hydrogen peroxide solution for up to 12 hours. Is It Safe to Soak Contacts in Hydrogen Peroxide for an Extended Period of Time? Some experts suggest that contact lenses can be left in hydrogen peroxide overnight, but it is best to consult with your eye care professional before doing this. After 6 hours, it is important to rinse the lenses thoroughly with sterile saline solution before reinserting them into the eye. Most contact lens manufacturers recommend that contacts be soaked in hydrogen peroxide solution for at least 6 hours. How Long Can You Leave Contacts Soaked in Hydrogen Peroxide? But how long can you safely leave your contacts in hydrogen peroxide? In this article, we’ll explore the safety of leaving contacts in hydrogen peroxide, discuss the pros and cons of doing so, and provide step-by-step instructions on how to properly clean your contacts with hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is a popular choice for contact lens wearers looking for an effective and safe way to clean their lenses. Benefits, Cleaning, Contacts, Hydrogen Peroxide, Risks, Safety, Soaking Introduction No matter how Pac-Man’s speed changes between levels, players can rely on the ratio of speed between Pac-Man and the most aggressive Ghost, Blinky, to be the same for 20 out of 21 levels. This consistency among all the other changing variables in Pac-Man’s difficulty design goes a long way in making the interactions easier to learn yet variable. However, when there are very few Dots left in the maze and Blinky moves at his fastest, his speed is consistently 5% faster than Pac-Man’s (except on the final level of difficulty where it’s 15% faster). Pac-Man’s speed matches Blinky’s, a design choice that allows Blinky to chase Pac-Man effectively and makes the tiny speed boost granted when Pac-man rounds corners more obvious. Pac-Man’s normal movement speed is also divisible by 10. The speed values for Blinky are all divisible by 10. Blinky, the red Ghost, speeds up two times in a level based on the number of Dots left in the maze. Fright times are whole numbers measured in seconds, which makes counting easier. Ghosts flash an odd number of times before becoming deadly, which helps musically-inclined players who are used to musical phrases ending on an even beat. Many variables are tuned to be easier for players to keep track of mentally. Keeping it 3 and 5 gives players who anticipate a 3 flash change to react accordingly by the 5th flash. The number of times frightened Ghosts flash before becoming deadly is either 3 or 5 It would be more difficult to determine exactly when Ghosts turn deadly if the number of flashes ranged from 1-5. Pac-Man and Ghost speed can be discerned by simply observing their sprites for a few seconds of motion. Between levels 4 and 5, the difference of Fright Pac-Man’s dot-eating speed is 4%, a change so subtle that players may not perceive it consciously, but I’m confident that players can feel the difference.Īll of the variables listed above control gameplay elements that have clear feedback. On the other hand, during this “fright” time Pac-Man’s speed is lowered while he eats Dots. In the early levels his speed increases to help players chase vulnerable Ghosts. When Pac-Man eats an Energizer Power-Pellet his speed changes. Players can better learn Pac-Man’s gameplay by progressing through the game and refining their strategies as the challenges get harder. Tweaking these variables across the 21 levels in Pac-Man gives players more comprehensive exposure to the design space. # of Flashes (the visual indication that Fright Time for Ghosts is about to expire).Fright Time (in sec.) (the time Ghosts spend in the blue vulnerable state).Fright Ghost Speed (the speed of blue vulnerable Ghosts).Fright Pac-Man Dots Speed (speed eating Dots after Pac-Man grabs a Power-Pellet).Fright Pac-Man Speed (after Pac-Man grabs a Power-Pellet).Elroy 2 Dots Left (When there are this many Dots left, Blinkies/Red Ghosts increase in speed again).Elroy 1 Dots Left (When there are this many Dots left, Blinkies/Red Ghosts increase in speed).Ghost Tunnel Speed (Ghosts slow down when traveling through the Warps on the sides).Pac-Man Dots Speed (Pac-Man slows down a bit when eating Dots).Otherwise, one of the game’s 13 gameplay variables is tweaked. Out of the 21 levels, only a few pairs of levels present an identical gameplay challenge. But when I read through Jamey Pittman’s Pac-Man Dossier, I was surprised how many variables were tweaked to give each level its unique challenge. I knew this was the case for games as old as Pac-Man. With video games it’s common for levels to increase in difficulty as the game progresses. But many of today's travelers are ready and willing to pay for an outstanding experience. There are thousands of beach resorts to select from, each different from the rest. But most of all, we thank you for choosing Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit for your March destination so soon after your getaway to Jamaica. Thank you very much for sharing your "tremendous" vacation experience with the world. Overall however, this was probably the best beach vacation I’ve ever had. The cleanliness and room quality was far superior at GV, about the only think Zilara Jamaica had, was a nicer beach with better beach seating options. The service was good at Zilara, but Grand Velas was just truly that much more amazing. The food here was 10x better and higher quality. We thought the Zilara was very nice, and I gave it a good review, but it doesn’t even come close to the Grand Velas. For comparison, my wife and I stayed at a Hyatt Zilara all inclusive in Jamaica about 5 weeks prior to this vacation. She was back to health in a couple days and had a great finish to the vacation. The doctor gave the prescription to Adrian and he had the medicine at our hotel room within 45 minutes. Our daughter had a high fever and bad cough on day 2, Adrian lined up a doctor to come to our room for $80 US, and we had her diagnosed with an ear infection. I can’t say enough about the service, our concierge Adrian really saved our vacation. They had multiple nights where they did special beach side dining at sunset, the food was incredible, along with the views, highly recommend getting reservations for this. Tremendous burgers, taco’s pool side, also available for room service. For food, it’s hard to go wrong anywhere. There’s a specific toddler pool, but also the edge of the pool is shallow so she can splash around while the adults swim. We brought our young daughter with, and the pool situation was perfect for toddlers. The service is the best I’ve ever experienced, the food and drinks were all very high quality, the rooms were spacious and kept very clean. This is truly a 5 star experience from an all inclusive. Just returned from a tremendous vacation at Grand Velas. All of my friends who have went there have came back with similar experiences. All in all, this is my favorite place to vacation in Mexico and i can't recommend it enough. I would literally come back to this place just to see them because of how friendly and attentive they were to myself, my wife and our two children. Francisco Rios, Gilberto and Nino provided the best service i've ever experienced, all week. There was not a moment where i was waiting to find someone, or didn't have what we wanted. In regard to service, in general, the waiters by the pool made our trip so special the entire time. Dinner on the beach with my family was a very nice touch and Sabino provided kind and friendly service. Photographer Dan Mora took some of our best family photos to date. During our stay, we also went snorkeling, jet skiing and had photos taken, all through the hotel activities planner Jorge, which were all great and very unforgettable experiences. The food is absolutely all delicious and all the restaurants are a great experience with friendly service in gorgeous settings. Sebastian, the food and beverage manager, has even improved on that with some great new pool/bar options and menus. One reason i love this particular place is the quality of their food. Our concierge Luis was on top of everything and made sure we had the best experience possible. Aside from the resort being well manicured, always being added to, and absolutely beautiful, the staff are all very friendly and all seem to love working here. The general manager Ler is very attentive to this property and keeps making the overall experience so perfect in so many respects. I bring my family here for vacation every year and each year we somehow have an even better time.
